Jussie Smollett's Conviction Over Alleged False Attack & Hate Crime Overturned By Illinois Supreme Court

The Illinois Supreme Court has overturned Jussie Smollett‘s convictions. If you don’t remember, the 42-year-old Empire actor and director was sentenced to 150 days in jail after being convicted of faking a racial and homophobic hate crime in 2019.

He continues to maintain his innocence and is actively appealing the ruling. He was in jail for six days before being released pending the appeal process. Keep reading to find out more… On Thursday (November 21), the following was released by the court: “We are aware that this case has generated significant public interest and that many people were dissatisfied with the resolution of the original case and believed it to be unjust.

Nevertheless, what would be more unjust than the resolution of any one criminal case would be a holding from this court that the State was not bound to honor agreements upon which people have detrimentally relied.” They will now be initiating a dismissal.
