Jussie Smollett has officially been released from prison. The 39-year-old Empire actor was escorted out of the Cook County Department of Corrections detention center as he awaits his appeal case on Wednesday night (March 16) in Chicago, Ill. Earlier that day, an appeals court ruled that Jussie could be released from prison after spending six days of his 150 sentence locked up.

He was sentenced last week after being found guilty of faking his 2019 hate crime. The court decided that Jussie could be released after posting a personal recognizance bond of $150,000, meaning he doesn’t have to put down any money, but has agreed to come to court as required, according to the New York Post. Jussie‘s attorneys argued that he would have finished his jail sentence by the time his appeal process would be completed.
