Jurnee Smollett is breaking her silence on her brother Jussie Smollett‘s prison sentence. Earlier this week, the 39-year-old actor was sentenced to 150 days in prison for faking his hate crime back in 2019.

Jussie is innocent,” Jurnee wrote on Instagram. “And…you don’t have to believe in his innocence to believe he should be free. #FreeJussie #StopLockingUpOurPeople,” Jurnee added. Jussie was convicted of faking a racial and homophobic attack in Chicago, Ill., and was sentenced on Thursday (March 10) to 150 days in jail, as well as 30 months of felony probation, restitution to the city of Chicago and a fine of $25,000.
