Cynthia Onyedinmanasu Chinasaokwu Erivo (born 8 January 1987) is an English actress, singer, and songwriter.

She is known for her performance as Celie in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, for which she won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, and the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program, the latter two she shared with the rest of the cast.

Erivo ventured into films in 2018, with roles in the heist film Widows and the thriller Bad Times at the El Royale. In 2019, she portrayed abolitionist Harriet Tubman in the biopic Harriet, for which she earned nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Julie Andrews reunites with The Sound of Music cast nearly 60 years after iconic film

Julie Andrews has reunited with The Sound of Music cast almost six decades after the classic 1965 musical was released. The 86-year-old superstar was receiving the 48th American Film Life Achievement Award at a star-studded gala in LA, which featured former co-stars paying tribute to the Hollywood icon and her legendary career.

Five of the seven actors who played the von Trapp children – including Duane Chase, Kym Karath, Angela Cartwright, Debbie Turner, and Nicholas Hammond – posed with Andrews on the red carpet as they supported her at the event.Kym played Gretl, Angela starred as Brigitta, Debbie played Marta, Duane played Kurt, and Nicholas played Friedrich in the award-winning film.

The musical follows Julie’s Maria as she is sent to the home of retired naval officer Captain Georg von Trapp (played by the late Christopher Plummer) to be governess to his seven children; Liesl, Friedrich, Louisa, Kurt, Brigitta, Marta, and Gretl.

Charmian Carr (who played Liesl) died in 2016 aged 73, and Heather Menzies (who played Louisa) died in 2017 aged 68. On her prestigious accolade, Julie told the LA Times: ‘I’m enormously honoured that AFI chose me.
