Johnny Vegas is keeping his outdoors dreams alive as Carry On Glamping returns for a second series – but this time around it’s no picnic for the Benidorm star and his long-suffering assistant Beverley Dixon.

The show follows Johnny, 53, as he tries to find a bigger home for his and Bev’s glamping business after the success of their Yorkshire site.The pair travel from Brighton to Leeds, and while they get up to their fair share of shenanigans, progress hits a wall when Johnny receives a diagnosis for ADHD, a condition that makes people struggle to concentrate, appear restless and find it hard to cope with stress.

Johnny admits he found dealing with his ADHD “quite overwhelming” during filming. “I had to take time out and the project went on hold,” sighs Johnny, whose real name is Michael Pennington. “My brain absolutely ground to a halt and I had to step out. “Something had to give and it was me.There was a point I could have walked if I wasn’t so passionate about it.” Despite these mental health challenges, Johnny says he is now in “a really good place”. “I’m starting to feel very lucky for what I’ve got and for the people I’ve got around me,” he says. “I’m nervous about this series because there’s a lot of Michael in it, it’s not just Johnny, and it was really hard having to down tools and admit I wasn’t coping, especially on camera.” “But hopefully people will see it’s alright not to be alright.

And I love being on site and involving my sons in it,” adds Johnny, who shares Michael Jr, 20, with ex-wife Kitty Donnelly, and Tom, seven, with ex-wife Maia Dunphy. “The older one got involved and really did some hard graft and the younger one just loves being there.” Fans can expect more bickering than ever from old friends.
