Johnny Nash, best known for the 1972 hit 'I Can See Clearly Now', has died Tuesday at his home, his son has confirmed. The American reggae and pop music singer-songwriter was aged 80 when he passed away, CBS Los Angeles has reported.
Johnny was born in Houston and started singing as a child at Progressive New Hope Baptist Church. He made his debut on a major record label in 1957 with the single 'A Teenager Sings the Blues.' Johnny enjoyed his first chart success with a cover of Doris Day’s 'A Very Special Love' in early 1958.
It was in 1972 that he had his career defining hit with the reggae-influenced single 'I Can See Clearly Now'. The single sold over a million copies in the United States alone and reached the top of the Billboard Hot
