Johnny Depp’s disturbing texts about ex-wife Amber Heard have been read aloud in court. The pair are currently going through an explosive defamation trial in Virginia which Johnny, 58, filed against Amber, 35, as a result of her penning a Washington Post op-ed about experiencing domestic violence.
While she didn’t name Johnny in the piece, he launched a $50m libel lawsuit against the now-mum-of-one. As the trial continues, the actor has had some of the text messages he wrote about Amber read out to the court where Johnny reportedly spoke of wanting to drown and burn his ex-wife.
Bringing up his friendship with Marvel actor Paul Bettany, Amber’s lawyer Benjamin Rottenborn said: “Paul Bettany is a good friend you've done drugs with?” Johnny then responded by branding his question as “strange”, before proceeding to admit that he’d had done drugs and drank alcohol with Paul.
Reading out one of the actor’s texts to Paul in 2013, the lawyer said: “Let's burn Amber!!!” Asking Johnny if he could see the message, the 58 year old confirmed that he could. “You didn't stop,” Amber’s lawyer went on. “The next text down says: ‘Let's drown her before we burn her!!!'’ I read that right?” Johnny then replied with yes.
