Johnny Depp’s bid to overturn the outcome of his libel case has reached the Court of Appeal.The actor’s appeal will be considered this week, after a three-week trial in July 2020 over an article published in The Sun calling him a ‘wife-beater’.At the time High Court judge Justice Nicol found it was ‘substantially true’ and ruled the 57-year-old had assaulted his ex Amber Heard, 34.The Pirates of the Caribbean star, who denies all allegations against him, applied for permission to appeal against the decision, which will be heard at the Royal Courts of Justice on Thursday morning.

The hearing will also deal with an application by his lawyers to rely on new evidence which was not heard at the trial, according to a court order issued in.
