Johnnie Walker in Kilmarnock is set to be tidied up after restoration plans for the grave headstone got the go-ahead.East Ayrshire Council planners gave the proposal the go-ahead recently and the council has been leading the drive to spruce up the area.An information board will also be put up so visitors can read about his life.The iconic memorial could be a draw for tourists interested in the origins of the famous drink but there there have been complaints about its poor condition.
The headstone will be taken away to undergo repairs before being put back in place. And a new 1200mm high wrought iron fence is also to be installed in the former St Andrew’s Glencairn Church cemetery grounds.
