John Stones could sit out upcoming Premier League games against Tottenham and Aston Villa despite returning to the Manchester City squad against Liverpool.
Stones has barely played for City this season after suffering a string of recurring hip injuries that have sidelined him for months.
There were initial fears after his injury against Young Boys in early November that he could be facing a long lay-off, although the England international surprised many by returning before the month was out.
However, he was an unused substitute on Saturday and Pep Guardiola stressed after the game that City do not want to rush him back.
