The 77-year-old broadcaster is currently hosting Mastermind on the BBC but he previously had beef with the royal family when hosting Radio 4's Today programme, saying that he was turned down numerous times when asking to interview the Queen.
His 55 years at the BBC has also seen him clash with other members of the royals, as well as taking politicians to task on a daily basis.
