John Higgins has ended a 13-month wait for a tournament victory by beating Judd Trump 3-1 to retain his Championship League title in Leicester. The Wizard of Wishaw was on top form to win the invitational tournament, pocketing £10,000 and earning a spot in the Champion of Champions tournament in November.Higgins fired seven centuries over two days to take what is his fourth Championship League title since 2017.And he did so despite Trump firing in career century number 899 to draw level at 1-1.After securing his 50th career title, Higgins said: "It feels amazing."I played really well the last couple of days, although it wasn't looking good after losing my first match against Kyren Wilson 3-0, then 2-0 down to Stuart Bingham - if Stuart doesn't go for a maximum, and I think he was on 56, I'd have lost my first two matches 3-0."Wilson went 2-0 up in the semi-final with breaks of 137 and 85, but Higgins reeled off three straight frames to book his place in the final.Higgins added: "It's a big tournament in its own right, now.

It gets you into the Champion of Champions."It's brilliant to win it, and hopefully it can give me a bit of confidence."I got some work done on my cue but I am going back to my roots with the same size of cue."It seemed to work and it has given me confidence.

It's all about confidence, this game."Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
