Joe Lycett investigated by police after 'offended' audience member complains

TV funnyman Joe Lycett has revealed he was recently investigated by the police after an audience member complained about one of his jokes during a standup gig.

The comedian, 33, shared the bizarre development in a post on Instagram as he updated fans to tell them that the police had closed the case - but only after he had been forced to explain the context of the joke to the authorities.

Recalling the news of his brush with the law, Joe wrote: “So someone came to my tour show a few weeks back and was offended by one of the jokes. “And their perfectly understandable response to this was… to call the f****** police.” Although the report did require the comedian to provide a statement to clarify what he had said and why, Joe did speak highly of the police as he explained they were very nice about the situation.The star continued: “To be fair to them the fuzz were very nice about it all but felt they had a duty to investigate. “This involved me writing a statement explaining the context of the joke for them; I particularly enjoyed putting the words ‘giant donkey dick’ into a message to a police detective. “Charmed, and hopefully amused, the rozzers have since closed the matter.” Following the unusual complaint, Joe was quick to reassure fans that the joke would remain in his tour as he continues to perform around the country until September.

He added: “You’ll be pleased to know that the joke – which I consider to be one of the best I’ve ever written – remains firmly and proudly in the show. “The tour continues until September, unless I am jailed.” Originally from Birmingham, Joe has carved quite the name for himself in the UK comedy scene thanks to his appearances on comedy shows such as Live At The Apollo, Taskmaster, Never.
