J.K Rowling has broken her silence after she was slammed for maintaining her giant leylandii hedge outside her home. The Harry Potter author came under fire from locals in Edinburgh after works to trim the plant caused traffic chaos on nearby roads.
The 58-year-old billionaire had the road opposite her 17th-century property restricted to allow a cherry picker to work on the shrubbery.A four-way set of temporary traffic lights were installed outside her home.
Parents were left furious by the move after their children were late for school due to being held-up in traffic. After speaking to the MailOnline, Ms Rowling's representatives insisted that the lights were necessary for safety.
A spokesperson said: "The hedge cutting at JK Rowling's residence is annual maintenance that involves necessary traffic management for the safety of the general public.
