He was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2008 and made his NHL debut for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2011. He played for various teams during his NHL career including a two season stint with his hometown Boston Bruins.
Hayes best season was with the Florida Panther when he scored 19 goals during the 2014-15 season. He finished his playing career in 2018 with the New Jersey Devils, finishing with 54 goals and 109 points during his pro career.
