Legendary Margaritaville singer Jimmy Buffet's cause of death has been revealed – after he passed away aged 76, following a career spanning more than 50 years.
A statement on the singer's official website, released on Friday, 1 September, said he died "peacefully ... surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs." Jimmy had suffered from an undisclosed health issue since 2022, after he ended up in hospital and was forced to cancel performances.
More cancellations followed in 2023 when he revealed he was back in the hospital to address further issues. But now an official obituary on his website says he died in New York as a result of Merkel skin cancer, which he'd been diagnosed with four years ago and had been "fighting".
It went on to say: "He continued to perform during treatment, playing his last show, a surprise appearance in Rhode Island, in early July." According to Surgicaloncology.co.uk, Merkel skin cancer's tumours can appear as a skin-coloured lump, though they can also appear red, bluish-red, or purple in colour.
