Jim Goodwin doesn’t like to call pre-season matches ‘friendlies’.The former Buddies battler always had an insatiable will to win whenever he stepped on to the pitch as a player and has carried that determination into the dugout as a manager.

Having won their opening two pre-season games so far, against Linfield and Ayr United, Goodwin was gutted the first competitive game of the new campaign with Dumbarton was forfeited on Saturday due to coronavirus in the Sons’ camp.

Tonight St Mirren will finally get their first taste of competitive action when Dunfermline travel to Paisley, with 500 lucky Saints fans returning to the stands for the first time in more than a year.
