Dundee United have suffered a nightmare start to the season as Jim Goodwin suffers another cup howler, this time against Spartans in the Viaplay Cup.Optimism for a rebuild under the Irishman had been building pre-game after relegation to the Championship.
But those initial summer butterflies have been hammered by a Blair Henderson goal early in the first half that sealed a famous win for the Lowland League champions preparing for life in League Two.
Tony Watt missed a penalty and they hit the bar late on but it's more cup misery for Goodwin, six months on from a defeat to Darvel as manager of Aberdeen.It is just the second time Spartans have beaten a full-time team.
They were far from the only ones to suffer cup dismay though. Stenhousemuir inflicted a shock loss on 2021 winners St Johnstone, Euan O'Riley sealing that win.And St Mirren went down 1-0 on the road at League One side Montrose.
