The owner of a ‘Jim Baxter 1967 Wembley jersey’ pulled from auction after other shirts emerged has said he has “complete confidence” in its authenticity.Mark Deighan’s top - said to be the exact one worn by ‘Slim Jim’ during Scotland’s historic 3-2 victory over England - was set to go under the hammer at respected auction house McTear’s on Friday after a decade on display at Ibrox. But the lot, gifted directly to Mark’s dad by a Rangers star, was pulled just hours before sale after the Record told of two others claims on the iconic jersey.Mark, who was born in Edinburgh but lives in Kent, believes further investigations by experts will “crack the mystery” and hopefully prove him to be the rightful owner. He said: “I think it can definitely be solved.“There are three people claiming to have the shirt and the evidence for one will ultimately overwhelm the two.“I think McTear’s will crack the mystery as to who does own the Wembley 1967 shirt.”McTear’s estimated bids for Mark’s shirt, sold on behalf of his Glasgow-born dad, Jimmy McGarrity, could reach up to £60,000.Jimmy had been gifted the shirt by his pal, the former Chelsea player Alan Hudson, who in turn got it from the late England star Alan Ball. But despite McTear’s saying they were “steadfast” in the provenance of the top, two other strips emerged - with their owners providing photographic evidence of Jim Baxter himself passing them on for auction before his death in 2001.Falkirk businessmen David Wishart and Andrew Dickson told the Record last week how their dads snapped up the genuine article for £17,500 at a 1991 dinner auction attended by Baxter. And on the day of the auction, we also revealed that members of the Tartan Specials band had also claimed to have bagged
