Jenny Slate Explains Why It Took 7 Years to Make Her New Film 'Marcel the Shell with Shoes On'

Jenny Slate is opening up about her latest project. During Monday night’s episode (June 20) of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actress spoke with guest host Sean Hayes about her new film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. Click inside to read more… “So 2010, I like the rest of the world became obsessed with it,” Sean began. “I think it was the most charming, clever, funny, sweet thing I’ve ever seen.

So when did you create the character and how long ago did you start making this movie?” Jenny explained that she co-created Marcel with Dean Fleischer Camp during a weekend together with four other people in the same hotel room, which is when she started doing Marcel’s iconic voice.

She went on to say that it took seven years to film, with her and her fellow cast members improvising the audio from a large document that gave a rough idea of what would happen throughout the movie. “It was like a years long process of just locking that audio down,” Jenny said, adding that it took constant revision to get the film to where it is now. “Then they did the live action, then they did the stop motion.” Check out her full interview down below.
