Houston rock band Khruangbin is credited as the song’s producer thanks to a sample of its 2018 track, “A Hymn.” As Jay Electronica revealed in an Instagram Live session previewing the album, “A.P.I.D.T.A.” was recorded on the night of Kobe Bryant’s death.
The opening chorus finds JAY-Z lamenting the death of close ones: On his verse, Jay Electronica mourns the death of his mother: Kobe Bryant was a big hip-hop fan.
In the late ‘90s, he was signed to Sony Entertainment and recorded a never-released debut album, Visions. He particularly loved JAY-Z’s music.
