I knew she'd died straight away," he said. "It's so grim and unspeakable, people don't know what to say. They don't know how to act around you," said Clara.
She added: "I feel so sad I'll never see her grow up. "Maude had had what was thought to be a chest infection late in 2010. She had been discharged from A&E with steroids and antibiotics.
But on New Year's Eve Jason remembered how Maude had seemed "floppy and pale", so they drove her back to A&E. They were told it would be croup, and Maude was sent home again. "Not a single day goes by when we don't think about Maude," Jason said.
