After graduation, he enrolled at the University of Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before he transferred to the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
He moved to Los Angeles in 1992 to pursue a career as a director and actor. His big break came in 1994 when he was cast alongside Clare Danes in ABC’s My So-Called Life.
