Jamie Carragher explains why current Man City team are 'superior' to Manchester United treble winners

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes it would be increasingly difficult to argue that Manchester City are not the greatest English football team if they win the Champions League this season.

Carragher was speaking after City took a leap towards securing the treble on Wednesday night. A Kevin De Bruyne brace sandwiched between goals for John Stones and Erling Haaland saw the Blues beat Arsenal 4-1 and subsequently move two points behind the Gunners.

As well as being in contention for the Premier League, City have reached the FA Cup final where they will meet Manchester United and are in the last four of the Champions League where Real Madrid await.

In his Daily Telegraph column post-match, Carragher lauded Pep Guardiola's current crop and claimed they are better than the Manchester United treble-winning team of 1999. "There is barely any similarity in how they are going about trying to match that achievement.
