James Tavernier.The skipper has been a pivotal figure in their championship-winning charge and the champions want to reward him.Director of football Ross Wilson and manager Steven Gerrard both want to extend the free-scoring defender’s existing deal beyond the end of next season.The Ibrox side are confident that the 29-year-old is happy and keen to extend his six year spell.Tavernier moved from Wigan Athletic in 2015.The reliable Englishman was named Rangers captain in one of Gerrard’s first acts as manager back in 2018.Tavernier is in the running for player of the season after an impressive haul of 17 goals and 15 assists for Rangers in all competitions.The defender has been out in recent weeks with a knee injury suffered in the Europa.
