James McCarthy is no longer listed as a Celtic player on the club's official website as his Hoops career plunges into further anonymity.
The former Everton midfielder was infamously handed a four-year deal by Ange Postecoglou in 2021 but his last first-team appearance came nearly two years ago in October 2022.
He may have hoped Brendan Rodgers' return to the club last summer would have done him a favour, but he wasn't even named in a senior squad in 2023/24, his only action coming with the B team in the Lowland League.His lockout has continued through the summer into this season and it's likely Celtic are open to any deal that would get him off the books for the season ahead.
The latest hint that his Parkhead career is over comes on the official Celtic website – where he is no longer listed among the senior players.
