Jacob Murphy 'still wanted' by Rangers as Steven Gerrard keeps tabs on Newcastle contract talks

Newcastle United, according to a report. The winger was on a list of targets over the summer with first revealing news of Steven Gerrard's interest earlier this year.

But no move ever materialised and Murphy has earned himself some first team opportunities this season with Steve Bruce handing him game time and admitting he's been impressed.

He's out of contract next summer, though, and the Chronicle say Gerrard is keeping a close eye on his contract talks in the hope he can make a pre-contract move for him in January.

At 25, Rangers wouldn't need to pay any cross-border development fee for Murphy if he was to leave St James Park next summer.
