Sanjeev Bhaskar, the beloved star of ITV's Unforgotten, has finally spilled the beans on what he carries in his iconic backpack as the hit crime drama returns to our screens.
The 61-year-old actor, who has won over fans as DI Sunil Khan since the show's inception in 2015, addressed the curiosity surrounding his character's black bag and its contents.
While chatting on BBC's The One Show on Friday (January 31), Sanjeev revealed the backstory behind the backpack after some viewers criticised it for making him look like a schoolboy.
He told hosts Ross Kemp and Clara Amfo: "There was a lot of weird criticism that I got after the first series about why my character had a backpack- I just chose a bag that was practical." He added: "They kind of said 'he looks like a child, he doesn't wear it properly.'" To add an element of surprise, from the second series, Sanjeev requested the costume department secretly fill the backpack with random items, which he wouldn't discover until the end of filming each day.
