Emmerdale fans have been left asking 'why' after the latest trip to the village saw a shock hit-and-run take place. Viewers of the ITV soap were initially left confused when the tuned into Thursday's episode (March 30) when the opening scene showed Alex Moore (Liam Boyle) lying injured on the road after being mowed down by a car with a then-unknown driver.

As the confusion over what was going on began, the bloodied scene then jumped to show Billy and Dawn Fletcher getting ready for their court hearing where they would find out if they would keep custody of Dawn's son Lucas, and his half-sister Clemmie.

As they headed to court, Alex, who is the father of both children, was nowhere to be seen as he carried at his plan to steal drugs after his earlier plans to steal directly from inside the doctors surgery backfired. The couple then went home to celebrate but their joy soon turned to horror. Billy took the car to go and grab the family some fish and chips as Kim Tate cracked open the champagne at Home Farm.
