ITV detective favourite to 'replace' Neil Dudgeon in Midsomer Murders after show cancellation

Neil Dudgeon, best known for his role in Midsomer Murders, has hinted at a possible successor should he decide to hand over his detective badge.

While firmly in place as DCI John Barnaby, the actor mentioned Jason Watkins of McDonald and Dodd's fame as a potential candidate.

Speaking recently with Radio Times about the future casting choice, Neil remarked: "Jason [Watkins], obviously, unless they needed to go for somebody, well, you're quite a bit younger than me." He added that Jason, having played a detective amidst picturesque settings, would be an ideal fit: "You've been a detective, it's in the lovely countryside.

So that would be great. We've got two good options." 2011 marked the year Neil stepped into the shoes of John Barnaby, taking the baton from predecessor John Nettles.
