A driver who was speeding in his new BMW hit and killed a dad-of-two. Aaron Metcalfe had bought the car to celebrate the birth of his daughter when he was driving at 57mph in a 30mph zone and crashed into cyclist Mariusz Zak.
Metcalfe, 35, admitted to causing the death of Mr Zak by dangerous driving in the crash on December 18, 2021. Mr Zak, 42, had been cycling on the pavement but changed direction and rode across the road, coming into the path of the BMW. "The speed of the BMW was such that the defendant could not stop," said Miss Stuart-Lofthouse.

Police were alerted and went to the scene, HullLive reports. Mr Zak suffered head injuries and attempts were made to resuscitate him, but he died shortly after arriving at Hull Royal Infirmary.
