Issa Rae Says ‘Insecure’ Fans Have Asked For Finale Reshoot: “People Are Really Mad”
deadline.comThough Issa Rae‘s seminal HBO dramedy Insecure has long since wrapped, with a final episode airing in late 2021, the multi-hyphenate is very aware that some fans are displeased with the ending — even to the point of asking for reshoots.
In a new interview with People, the Barbie star admitted she knows that “people are really mad about” how the show concluded.
After five seasons spanning 2016 through 2021, the perennially awkward and self-titled Issa Dee opts to rekindle her romance with on-again, off-again beau Lawrence (Jay Ellis) to the chagrin of many devoted viewers, who had long since dismissed the ex as no good, especially after he fathered a child with another woman, Condola (Christina Elmore).
Ellis’ character is so polarizing that the actor revealed in 2020 that he has been “punched,” “slapped” and “cussed out” due to his portrayal. “People have told me to reshoot, which is crazy because they didn’t like the decision that Issa makes in the end,” the media mogul explained.
