Irvine youth football stars plea for help after vandals set fire to home ground

An Irvine youth football team are turning to their community in a bid to save their facilities. Irvine Vics 2011s have been overwhelmed with the generosity of locals after a spate of vandalism which culminated in a fire at their home base last Tuesday.

A blaze ripped through shipping containers they use as storage and has left the club without electricity for their changing rooms while maintenance equipment was also damaged.

Already, more than £600 has been raised towards the £1,000 target to have new fencing erected and security cameras installed.Club secretary and child protection officer, Jo Kelly, was humbled by the support but said the club was at the end of its tether in dealing with the vandalism.She said: “We’ve had that football pitch, we lease it through the council, for the last nine years.

We’ve had quite a lot of vandalism done which we have just covered ourselves.“We decided enough is enough. This is money we are using that is supposed to be for the boys.
