Irvine Vics boss Dougie MacDuff has launched a stinging attack on football chiefs after the club lost an appeal against their expulsion from the Scottish Junior Cup.The Westenders were booted out of the competition after the SJFA found them guilty of playing midfielder Chris Jackson in a first-round win against Fraserburgh on August 27 when he should have been serving a suspension. The club lodged an appeal which was finally heard last week by the SFA who upheld the original decision meaning Fraserburgh will now play Troon in the second round.A Vics delegation argued that suspension lists sent out to clubs were misleading which led them to make a genuine mistake. And after the ruling, MacDuff voiced his anger at the handling of the whole affair. He said: “It’s an absolute joke.

We would never have played Chris if we knew he was suspended.“The SJFA sent out a suspension list with players grouped by their club.

We had Franny Kilpatrick on there so we sat him out the Fraserburgh game as you would.“But we missed Chris’ name because he is on the list as a Vale of Leven player.

That’s where he picked up his ban but he left them last October and has signed twice for us since then.“It was a genuine mistake on our part.
