Irv Gotti has sadly passed away. The iconic music producer, known for working with acts like Ja Rule, Ashanti, Aaliyah, Jennifer Lopez, Jay-Z and DMX, among many others — has died at the age of 54, Def Jam Recordings confirmed. THR reports that while an official cause of death was not given, he had suffered a number of strokes in recent years, as well as health issues relating to diabetes.

After an early rise to fame as a producer on Jay-Z‘s “Can I Live,” he would launch Murder Inc., responsible for the careers of acts like Ashanti and Ja Rule.
