NASA and SpaceX are set to launch two astronauts into space this evening, on a 400 kilometre journey to the International Space Station (ISS).

The ISS orbits our planet at a height of around 400km, meaning the space station makes around 16 trips around Earth every single day.

It’s regularly visible from the UK, although not at the most sociable times. NASA explained: “All sightings will occur within a few hours before or after sunrise or sunset. "This is the optimum viewing period as the sun reflects off the space station and contrasts against the darker sky.” While the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will take around 19 hours to reach the ISS, both the rocket and the space station will be visible from the UK tonight!
