Michaela Strachan was going through one of the toughest times of her life when she started out on Pilgrimage: The Road Through North Wales.The nature expert and Springwatch host had lost a number of loved ones over the preceding year, including her best friend Lucy who passed away from breast cancer just before filming began.

It was an incredibly difficult year for Michaela, 57, but the broadcaster has experienced more than her fair share of tragedy over the years, from health battles to divorce.

She joins Spencer Matthews, Tom Rosenthal, Eshaan Akbar, Christine McGuinness, Amanda Lovett and Sonali Shah on the 220km trek for the BBC Two show.

OK! takes a look at her personal tragedies. Divorce Michaela's first marriage was to nature filmmaker Duncan Chard, who she tied the knot with in 1996, but they divorced in 2001 when the TV star realised she had a "fundamental difference" that couldn't be reconciled with her husband.
