Inquest into murder of Scot opened after 'dog-napping' report on day of death

An inquest into the murder of a Scot opened and adjourned after a 'dog-napping' report was made to the police. Donald Prentice Patience, 45, originally from Alness, was discovered dead at his home on Ainsworth Road in Radcliffe, near Bury, on Tuesday, August 22.During a hearing at Rochdale Coroner's Court today a man was charged with his murder and a trial date has been fixed for next year, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Police coroner's officer, Kathy Dixon, said a 'passer-by' saw an 'unknown man' coming out of Mr Patience's home 'with his dog' on the day and alerted police.

Officers attended and made an arrest, the inquest opening heard. Ms Dixon said Mr Patience's body was subsequently discovered inside and paramedics went on to 'diagnose his death'.A Home Office post-mortem examination has been held, but no cause of death has been established as yet, the hearing was told.

Mr Prentice was identified through fingerprint records.
