A blind horse has amazed racing fans by galloping to victory in 26 races. Laghat caught the fungal infection mycosis, which robbed him of the sight in his right eye and led to 95 per cent blindness in his left.
Now retired and aged 17, his supporters have fond memories of his career on the track, which began in 2006. After taking to training like any other horse, he made a winning debut at San Rossore in Pisa, Italy – and proved he would be a force to be reckoned with by scoring again 15 days on.
Other horses he was competing against apparently appeared as shadows to him. “Laghat has a sixth sense, which tells him where to put his legs," said his rider in amateur races and owner Federico de Paola.
