Idrissa Akuna Elba OBE (born 6 September 1972) is an English actor, writer, producer, rapper, singer, songwriter and DJ. He is known for roles including Stringer Bell in the HBO series The Wire, DCI John Luther in the BBC One series Luther, and Nelson Mandela in the biographical film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013). He has been nominated four times for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film, winning one, and was nominated five times for a Primetime Emmy Award.

Actor and camapaigner Idris Elba appeared on The One Show tonight (Monday) to talk about his campaign against knife crime. Jermaine Jenas talked to the star about Don’t Stop Your Future.

It calls for an immediate ban on machetes and 'zombie knives', plus more funding for youth services. The 51-year-old unveiled an installation of piles of clothes and shows at Parliament Square in London this morning.

I'm a member of our society, I'm a parent and my heart bleeds when I see a young person whose life has been taken needlessly." The campaign used "clothes belonging to actual victims of knife crime to remind policymakers or anyone who can contribute to it, this is a pile of clothes.
