Cynthia Onyedinmanasu Chinasaokwu Erivo (born 8 January 1987) is an English actress, singer, and songwriter.

She is known for her performance as Celie in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, for which she won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, and the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program, the latter two she shared with the rest of the cast.

Erivo ventured into films in 2018, with roles in the heist film Widows and the thriller Bad Times at the El Royale. In 2019, she portrayed abolitionist Harriet Tubman in the biopic Harriet, for which she earned nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Idina Menzel Addresses the Possibility of Appearing in Upcoming 'Wicked' Movie

Is Idina Menzel ready to return to Oz?! In a new interview, the 50-year-old actress and singer chatted about the upcoming film adaption of Wicked, while revealing if she would consider making an appearance in it. Click inside to read more… “If they asked me to do it at the age of 51, I would say, sure — just put a little Vaseline on the lens, throw some green makeup on me, use a little CGI and I’ll look gorgeous,” Idina told People with a laugh.

In all seriousness, Idina added, “But no, it’s all good. That ship has sailed.” If you didn’t know, Idina originated the role of Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway, playing the role from October 2003 until January 2005. Idina starred opposite Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda.

In 2004, Idina won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role. Late last year, it was announced that Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will be starring in the movie adaption of Wicked directed by Jon M.

Chu. Cynthia will be playing Elphaba while Ariana will be playing Glinda. After the casting news was announced, Kristin shared her genius idea for a possible cameo in the movie!
