Ayr’s biggest primary school looks set to be chopped down – marking the end of one chapter of a long-running tradition.Heathfield Primary School’s giant tree at the school gates will sadly be removed as it is understood the tree’s roots are damaging underground drains.The tree has long been popular with P7 leavers who tie their red-coloured ties to the branches to complete their primary school journey.Heathfield announced the sad news on social media and that this year’s P7 pupils will be the last to add their ties to the tree.However, the school added they will welcome a new tree – ensuring that the tradition can continue next year.In a post on Facebook, they said: “The roots of this lovely tree are damaging the drains.
