A mum who swapped tills for preserving dead bodies says embalming is her dream career – even if it does draw mixed reactions from others.

Imogen Tyas spent years working at her local Co-op Food where she stacked shelves and helped customers. The 28-year-old had no plans to switch jobs until she spotted a vacancy to become a funeral arranger. Imogen went on to help families plan funerals with Co-op Funeralcare, guiding loved ones through burials or cremations while organising flowers, music and readings.

The mum was three years into the role when the company started running an accrediting embalming course, prompting her to apply.
