A woman who cheekily sent her aunt a tongue-in-cheek 40th birthday card as a child was left gobsmacked when the joke returned to bite her.

Back in 1995, Reddit user Brutz616 was just 10 years old when she gave her relative the playful card, teasing with the words: "Lordy, Lordy, look who's 40'ed." Fast forward 30 years, the same card made its way back to the original sender, who celebrated her own 40th birthday on January 25, 2025.She shared her surprise in the Pics subreddit, writing: "My aunt re-gifted me a birthday card I gave her 30 years ago." With a sense of humour intact, the aunt responded on the card with a timely: "Right back at ya!" The gag had hundreds of Reddit users in stitches, with one commenting amusingly: "I imagine her, packing up for a move or doing general decluttering several times during those years, ripping that card out of someone's hand that wants to throw it away with a 'NO!

I have a plan for that one!'" Another praised the long-game tactic: "Anything that someone holds onto for longer than 10 years and allows it to take up space with the express purpose of being gifted at a later time is not re-gifted - it is revenged." A third couldn't help but speculate: "I would like to believe when she got that card she got epic levels of p****d and concocted this 30 year plan of revenge.

As the clock ticked on and on it got more and more difficult to stifle her laughter as her time bomb got closer to detonate." Whilst a fourth person suggested: "Time to re-gift this card to your kid when they turn 40 and make this an ongoing heirloom.
