Residents have told of the moment they heard 'screeching' before a pedestrian was hit by a HGV in Oldham in a major smash on Wednesday afternoon (August 21).
The victim, a man aged 86, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after the horror collision on Manchester Road. A large heavy goods vehicle, carrying what appeared to be wooden beams, was stopped in the middle of the carriageway as police descended on the area.
The northbound carriageway was taped off throughout the afternoon amid investigations into the collision, causing 'gridlocked' roads and 'horrendous' traffic in the area.
