In a survey of more than 4,000 people by consumer organisation Which?, the chain was the only firm to receive just one star out of five for cleanliness.
It was also awarded one star for its value for money, despite offering cheap rooms and bargain stays. Guests have described Britannia's rooms and venues as 'filthy' and 'disgusting', with many expressing their disappointment and leaving scathing reviews online.
