Huw Edwards was third-highest paid BBC star as six-figure salary revealed

Huw Edwards, who earned over £475,000 from the BBC last year, resigned and left the corporation amidst a scandal involving explicit photos.The newsreader stepped down in April following allegations that he had paid a young individual for sexually explicit images.According to the BBC's annual report, Edwards was compensated between £475,000 and £479,999 for 160 presenting days during the 2023/24 year, which included BBC One news specials, election specials, and other television programming.This represented an increase from the previous year, 2022/23, when he received between £435,000 and £439,999 for 180 days of presenting on BBC One, as well as news specials.Edwards disappeared from our screens from July 2023, when the story first emerged, until his departure in April 2024.He was dealing with severe mental health problems and was receiving in-patient hospital treatment.The BBC confirmed at the time of his exit that he did not receive a severance package and was leaving "on the basis of medical advice from his doctors".Edwards has been a mainstay in the coverage of significant political and Royal events, including announcing Queen Elizabeth II's death on the BBC and leading the coverage of her funeral.He also hosted the BBC's broadcast of the King's coronation last year.Edwards was the third highest-paid employee on the 2023/24 list, up from fourth the previous year.

The list was once again topped by Match Of The Day anchor Gary Lineker, whose salary remained unchanged at between £1,350,000 and £1,354,999.1.
