The grieving widow of a nurse who died after testing positive for Covid-19 has called on the Government to do more to protect pregnant women.

Mary Agyapong, 28, who had been signed off sick, was 35 weeks pregnant and became critically ill when she tested positive for coronavirus.

She died on April 12 at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, where she had been working as a nurse when the pandemic began. An emergency caesarean was performed to save her baby who was born five weeks early, but after five days in intensive care Mary died.
