Millions of people will see their free TV licence revoked this month, as a funding row between the government and the BBC comes into effect.
The public service broadcaster said all over 75s will have to foot the full £157.50 bill from August for the first time in more than two decades.
TV Licensing said it will write directly to customers from August 5 with guidance on how they should pay their bills. It said no-one will be expected to pay for a new licence until they have been contacted in writing.
