Angel Gomes has revealed a Manchester United steward had to tell him he was about to come on and make his debut. Gomes, 19, became the fourth-youngest player in United history at the age 16 years and 263 days against Crystal Palace in the final Premier League game of the 2016-17 season.

Gomes had trained with the first-team two days earlier but seemed set to be unused when Matty Willock prepared to emerge as the final substitute late on due to an injury to Eric Bailly.
